Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel

The old Lackawanna Railroad terminal is one of the great surviving railway stations of the American northeast — a 1908 Beaux Arts limestone hall, complete with marble booking hall and a coffered barrel-vault ceiling decorated with portraits of stations along the line. Passenger service ended in 1970 and the building sat empty for years before being converted into a hotel.

You do not need to stay to look around. The lobby, the original baggage room, and the Carbondale Café (in the former concourse) are all open to the public. The exterior — three storeys of grey limestone with bronze lamps and a long colonnaded front — is at the heart of the redevelopment of the old industrial district.
