Raccoon Mountain Caverns

Five-mile cave system with both walking tours and serious wild-cave trips

Less polished than Ruby Falls but, for many cavers, more interesting — Raccoon Mountain holds more than five miles of passages and is one of the few US show caves that still runs proper wild-caving expeditions to the unlit sections.

The basic 45-minute walking tour follows lit and paved paths past formations of stalactites, soda straws, and flowstone. The "wild cave" trips, in groups with helmets and pads, crawl into squeezes and stream passages for two to four hours. Book the wild tours ahead.
