Cleveland's natural day trips are eastward into the Cherokee National Forest, the Ocoee and Hiwassee rivers, and across the state line into the small Cherokee historic sites at New Echota in Georgia. Chattanooga, an hour to the south, is the obvious urban day trip — Lookout Mountain, the Tennessee Aquarium, and the Bluff View arts district are easy targets. Dayton, west of Cleveland, is the site of the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial; the courthouse and small museum on the square are open to visitors.
