Getting Around

Sewanee is small enough to walk — the campus core, the coffee shop, the bookstore, and the nearest trail access points are all within easy walking distance of each other. The University Avenue corridor is about 10 minutes end to end on foot.

For the outlying trails, bluff overlooks, and natural features scattered across the Domain, you'll need a car. The Memorial Cross, Bridal Veil Falls, and Sewanee Natural Bridge are all a short drive from the center of campus but awkward or impractical to reach on foot.

There is no local bus or taxi service. Rideshare apps (Uber, Lyft) have limited availability on the plateau — drivers are not always nearby. If you're staying on or near campus, a bicycle is a genuinely good option for exploring the forest roads.

Trail maps for the Domain are available at the university's Outdoor Recreation office near the gym, and downloadable from the university website. Many of the bluff overlooks are at the end of unpaved forest roads; a standard car handles them fine in dry conditions, though high clearance helps in wet weather.
