Sewanee Natural Bridge

A 25-foot-high natural sandstone arch with a 50-foot span, located in a Tennessee state natural area about 5 miles south of the Sewanee campus. It's one of the more accessible natural arches in the region — a short flat walk from the small parking area brings you directly to the arch, and you can walk across the top if you're comfortable with heights.

The geology is characteristic of the Cumberland Plateau: horizontal sandstone layers eroded over millennia by water and weathering to leave the arch standing. A small waterfall drops over the bluff just downstream, making this a good spot to linger.

Managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation as a State Natural Area. Free to enter; no formal facilities, but the short trail is well marked. From Sewanee, take University Avenue south to Tennessee Route 56 and continue south.
