Getting There

Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport (AMA) is the main gateway, with direct flights to Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, and Phoenix. It is a small regional airport; connections through Dallas or Denver cover most destinations. The airport is about 10 miles east of downtown.

By road, Amarillo sits at the intersection of I-40 (the main east-west corridor through the southern United States, the successor to Route 66) and I-27, which runs south to Lubbock. From Dallas it is about 5.5 hours by car; from Albuquerque about 4 hours; from Denver about 7 hours.

Amtrak does not serve Amarillo. Greyhound and other bus lines connect the city to Dallas, Albuquerque, and intermediate points along the I-40 corridor.
