Historic 6th Street

Route 66 antique and vintage district with neon-lit storefronts

The original Route 66 alignment runs through Amarillo as 6th Street, and this stretch of it has been revived as an antique and vintage district. The strip of old brick storefronts houses antique shops, record stores, vintage clothing, and a handful of good independent restaurants and bars. It is the most walkable part of the city and a good place to spend an afternoon. The neon signs that line the street at night recall the road's mid-century heyday.
