The American Quarter Horse Association has its world headquarters in Amarillo, and this museum attached to it tells the history of the breed that powered the American West. Quarter horses are named for their speed over a quarter mile, and the exhibits cover everything from working ranch horses to the sport horses that now dominate rodeo and racing. There is a hall of fame honoring the most celebrated horses and the people who trained them. Located at 2601 East Interstate 40, open Monday through Saturday.
