River Legacy Parks

River Legacy Parks is a 1,300-acre preserve of bottomland hardwood forest along the Trinity River — one of the few stretches of the North Texas floodplain left in anything close to its natural state. The park has over twenty kilometres of hiking and mountain biking trails that wind through forest thick enough to feel genuinely remote despite being entirely surrounded by suburban development.

The mountain biking trails are the primary draw and have a strong local following; the park is considered one of the better urban mountain biking destinations in Texas, with enough technical variation to challenge experienced riders without shutting out beginners. The hiking trails along the river are pleasant for a morning walk, with good bird watching in the riparian zone. A nature centre near the main entrance has exhibits on local ecology and offers natural history programmes.

Open daily, free admission. The main entrance is on Green Oaks Boulevard in north Arlington.
