Quintana Beach County Park

Quintana Beach County Park is a 52-acre beachfront park on Quintana Island, at the southern tip of the Brazosport area where the Brazos River meets the Gulf of Mexico. The park is run by Brazoria County and maintained to a high standard — better than many state parks in Texas. A long fishing pier extends into the Gulf, a boardwalk loops through a small nature area, and wide, firm beaches give ample space even on summer weekends when Galveston is packed.

The water here is shallow and generally calm, making it well-suited for families with young children. The beach shelves gently and the Gulf current is mild. RV sites and cabin rentals are available inside the park. The pier at Quintana is a reliable spot for catching redfish, speckled trout, and black drum. Park entrance fee is charged; camping reservations are advisable for summer and holiday weekends.

A story
Quintana Island has a history that is easily overlooked: it was one of the first ports of entry to Texas, used by Stephen F. Austin's colonists in the 1820s before Galveston eclipsed it. A Confederate fort once stood here during the Civil War. The beach itself shows almost no trace of any of this — but the shrimping pier and the quiet Gulf shoreline have a timelessness that feels appropriate.
