Eating Out

San Antonio's food scene is deeply rooted in its Mexican and Texan heritage. Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican food are everywhere, from family-run taquerias to upscale River Walk restaurants. Do not leave without trying breakfast tacos, puffy tacos, and enchiladas.

La Palmita

A true locals' spot that has been serving classic Mexican food for over sixty years, still family-owned and family-run. The Guadalajara plate is the signature dish, and any taco on the menu is excellent and remarkably affordable. Ask for Abe. Closed Sundays. 5513 Blanco Rd, tel: 210-341-0045.

Paesano's Restaurant

An Italian restaurant where the filet mignon steals the show. The giant calamari is tender and generous, and locals know to order the Special Salad, which is not on the menu. 555 E Basse Rd Ste 100, tel: 210-828-5191.
