Thirty-eight acres of themed gardens, greenhouses, and native Texas landscapes northeast of downtown, next to Fort Sam Houston. The gardens include a formal rose garden, a Japanese garden, a Texas natives section covering the Hill Country, South Texas brush country, and East Texas piney woods, and the striking Lucile Halsell Conservatory — a partly subterranean complex of glass cones housing tropical and Mediterranean plants.
The overlook terrace at the highest point of the garden gives a panoramic view of the city — the image on the main San Antonio page. Best in spring when the roses and native wildflowers are at peak; the conservatory is year-round and worth visiting on its own.
