Bear Lake Overlook is the classic arrival moment. After the tight curves and forested walls of Logan Canyon, US-89 reaches the pass and the lake opens below in one broad sweep of blue, sage, and mountains.
There is not much to do here beyond stop, take the photograph, and orient yourself, but it is still one of the best short pauses in northern Utah. Morning light is softer; afternoon light often brings out the lake's strange turquoise colour.
