The Morse family has been making maple syrup on this Montpelier hillside for eight generations — somewhere over 200 years. The working sugarhouse, two miles north of downtown, is open year-round with free tours, a maple-themed gift shop, and (in late March) sugar-on-snow served on a paper plate.
There is also a short walking trail through the maple woods, a herd of friendly farm animals, and a viewing platform with a sweep across the Green Mountains. In sugaring season (late February to early April) it is one of the few places in Vermont where visitors can watch the syrup actually being boiled.
