T.W. Wood Gallery

Address 46 Barre Street, Montpelier, VT

The T.W. Wood Gallery holds the collection of the Montpelier-born painter Thomas Waterman Wood, a successful 19th-century portraitist who left the city his own paintings and a clutch of works by his American contemporaries. The collection has since expanded to include Vermont WPA-era art from the 1930s.

The gallery moved into the former Vermont College of Fine Arts campus a few years back. Hours are limited — check before going — but the collection is the best single window into Vermont's own visual art tradition.
