Stowe Mountain Resort

Vermont's premier ski resort, with the longest vertical drop in the eastern US

Stowe Mountain Resort sits on and around Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, offering some of the most challenging and rewarding skiing in the eastern United States. The resort has over 100 trails spread across two mountains — Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak — connected by a gondola. The Front Four trails on Mount Mansfield (Goat, Liftline, National, and Star) are legendary among New England skiers for their consistent steepness and difficulty.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, the resort operates in summer with a gondola ride to the summit, mountain biking, and an alpine slide on Spruce Peak. The gondola ride to the top of Mount Mansfield gives panoramic views across Vermont to the Adirondacks on clear days. The resort village at Spruce Peak has restaurants, shops, and a skating rink. Book accommodation well in advance for peak season weekends.

A story
Stowe's claim to be the Ski Capital of the East rests on more than marketing. Mount Mansfield's 2,360-foot vertical drop is the longest in the eastern United States, and the resort opened some of its trails in the 1930s — predating most of the ski culture that now defines New England winter tourism.
