The Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum occupies a historic building in Stowe village and covers the full history of skiing in Vermont from its beginnings in the 1930s to the present. The collection includes vintage equipment, historic photographs, and artifacts from the careers of Vermont-bred Olympic champions including Billy Kidd and Barbara Ann Cochran.
The museum does a good job of placing Vermont skiing in the context of American ski culture more broadly — the sport's democratization after World War II, when veterans who had trained in the ski corps returned home and built the first proper ski areas, is a particularly interesting chapter. Allow about an hour. The gift shop has a well-curated selection of ski photography books and Vermont-made items.
