Wilmington is a small town in southern Vermont, set in the Deerfield River valley beneath the ski slopes of Mount Snow. It is a year-round destination — in winter for the skiing at Mount Snow, one of southern New England's most popular ski resorts, and in summer for hiking, mountain biking, and the relaxed pace of rural Vermont.
The village centre has a low-key main street with shops, restaurants, and the kind of general store that Vermont seems to do particularly well. The surrounding landscape of wooded hills and valley farms is quintessentially Vermont, and the foliage season in October draws visitors from across the northeast. Just east, the road climbs over Hogback Mountain with its famous 100-mile view; west, the long Lake Whitingham reservoir is the largest body of water entirely within Vermont. Wilmington is about three hours from New York City.
