Leavenworth Ranger Station

The Leavenworth Ranger Station, now the Wenatchee River Ranger District office, is a well-preserved Civilian Conservation Corps complex from the late 1930s. The buildings — log-and-stone construction in the rustic National Park style — are on the National Register of Historic Places and remain in active use as the district's administrative centre.

Stop in to pick up maps and trail information for the surrounding Wenatchee National Forest and Alpine Lakes Wilderness before heading out on a hike. The staff are helpful with current conditions on Icicle Creek trails and other routes in the district. The building itself is worth a look for anyone interested in New Deal-era architecture.

A story
The Ranger Station complex was built between 1937 and 1938 by the Civilian Conservation Corps — one of Roosevelt's New Deal programs employing young men during the Depression. The CCC built thousands of structures in national forests and parks across the US; the Leavenworth station is one of the best-preserved examples of their rustic Cascadian style in Washington.
