Leavenworth Ski Hill

A small, community-owned ski area at the end of Ski Hill Drive, about 2 kilometres above town. The terrain is modest — this is not a destination resort — but the cross-country and Nordic facilities are excellent, and the historic ski jump is a draw in itself. In winter, night skiing under lights is available and the view over the valley is striking.

The hill is run by the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, founded in 1929. Groomed cross-country trails connect to the broader Ski Hill trail network, which is also used for hiking and mountain biking in summer. For families and beginners, or for anyone who wants low-key skiing without the crowds and prices of the major Cascades resorts, this is a good option.

A story
The Leavenworth Ski Hill was built in the 1920s and hosted international Nordic ski jumping competitions in the 1930s and 1940s, drawing competitors from Norway and across the US. The jump hill is on the National Register of Historic Places. The ski area is community-run — a volunteer cooperative, not a commercial resort — and lift tickets remain some of the most affordable in Washington.
