Late spring through early fall (May–September) is the most pleasant time to visit Spokane. Summers are hot and dry — July highs regularly reach 32°C (90°F) — which suits outdoor activities at Riverfront Park, Manito Park, and the river trails. The falls are at their most dramatic in spring when the snowmelt runs high.
Bloomsday, the world's largest timed road race, fills the city on the first Sunday of May with 40,000+ runners and a festive street atmosphere. Winter is cold and snowy — useful if you're heading to the ski areas on Mount Spokane or at 49 Degrees North nearby, but not ideal for sightseeing. The city gets about 60 cm of snow per year, and winter driving conditions on the passes require care.
