Getting Around

Light rail: The T Line (Tacoma Link) runs free through downtown, connecting the Museum District, Union Station, and Convention Center to the Hilltop neighbourhood. It is a useful shuttle between the waterfront cultural district and uphill. The T Line connects at Tacoma Dome station to the Sounder commuter rail to Seattle.

On foot: The downtown cultural district — Museum of Glass, Bridge of Glass, Union Station, Washington State History Museum, Tacoma Art Museum — is compact and walkable. Allow about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other.

By car: Point Defiance Park is 4 miles from downtown; 6th Avenue is 2 miles; the Tacoma Narrows is 8 miles west on Highway 16. Parking in downtown is generally easy and inexpensive compared to Seattle.

Amtrak Cascades: Trains run north to Seattle (30–45 minutes) and south to Portland several times daily, stopping at Tacoma Amtrak Station near the Dome.
