Tacoma has the same climate as Seattle: mild and wet in winter, dry and warm in summer. July and August are the peak months, with temperatures typically in the low 70s°F (20–22°C) and reliable sunshine. This is the best time for Point Defiance, the waterfront, and outdoor activities.
May and June are increasingly pleasant and less crowded than peak summer. September is excellent — warm, dry, and quieter than August.
The winter months (October to April) are grey and rainy but mild. The museums and indoor attractions are at their best when the weather discourages outdoor activity. The city functions normally year-round, and low-season accommodation rates are significantly cheaper than summer.
Mount Rainier: If visiting Point Defiance or the Narrows to photograph the mountain, clear days are more common from June through October. The mountain is invisible for days or weeks at a time during the winter rainy season.
