Jim's Steak and Spaghetti House

Jim's Steak and Spaghetti House is one of those restaurants that has outlasted every trend by simply refusing to change. It has been serving the same combination of grilled steaks and Italian-American pasta dishes since 1938, and the dining room looks much as it did then: deep booths, low lighting, and a menu that requires no explanation.

The house spaghetti with meat sauce is a reasonable indicator of whether you are on the restaurant's wavelength. The steaks are straightforward rather than ambitious, grilled over charcoal and served without ceremony. Prices are low by any measure. Jim's is on the National Register of Historic Places, which tells you something about how seriously Huntington takes its attachment to this place.

A story
Jim's opened in 1938 and the menu has changed remarkably little since. The combination of steak and spaghetti — an unlikely pairing that became the house signature — was Jim's own invention and reflects the Italian-American immigrant culture of mid-century Huntington. The booth seats and the chequered tablecloths are original.
