When to Go

Huntington has a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. The best times to visit are late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October), when temperatures are comfortable and the wooded hills around the Ohio River are at their most attractive.

Summer brings the West Virginia Hot Dog Festival in July, held at Pullman Square — an enjoyable and very local event. The Appalachian Summer Festival at Marshall University runs through July. Winter is cold and occasionally snowy; the surrounding hills can be icy, but the city itself functions normally. Autumn colour in the region begins in late September and peaks in mid-October.
