High Street runs through the center of downtown and is where you find most of the bars, restaurants, and coffee shops that serve the university crowd. The strip is at its most alive on Thursday and Friday evenings during the academic year, when the sidewalks fill and the bars run two-deep at the counter.
The street has the usual college-town range: pizza by the slice, wings joints, a few Thai and Indian places, some decent burger spots. A handful of restaurants have ambitions beyond the student budget — look for the newer places in the blocks south of Walnut Street. The Chestnut Café has been a reliable local breakfast spot for years.
