Warner Theatre

The Warner Theatre at 147 High Street is an Art Deco cinema built in 1931, one of the more architecturally distinctive buildings on Morgantown's main commercial street. The facade has the characteristic vertical lines and ornamental detailing of the style. The theatre operated as a movie house for decades before closing; it has since been repurposed and restored.

It is worth slowing down to look at on any walk along High Street — the building is in better shape than most American theatres of this vintage and gives a sense of what the downtown looked like in its mid-century heyday. The surrounding stretch of High Street has several other buildings from the same period, making it one of the better-preserved historic commercial corridors in this part of Appalachia.
