Sutton Downtown Historic District is the part of town worth walking before you head for the lake. The district covers the old commercial and civic core, with the Braxton County Courthouse, churches, banks, and brick storefronts from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
It is a short walk rather than a major architectural set piece, but it gives Sutton a real centre. Combine it with the Flatwoods Monster Museum and a coffee or lunch stop on Main Street.
