Avenida 9 de Julio

World's widest avenue, crowned by the iconic Obelisco

The widest avenue in the world, at 140 metres across — 16 lanes of traffic plus a central reservation wide enough for its own park. The Obelisco, a 67-metre art deco spire, stands at the main intersection with Avenida Corrientes and has been the meeting point for every major Buenos Aires celebration and protest since 1936. Crossing the avenue on foot takes three traffic lights and a certain amount of concentration.
