The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is one of Recoleta's best historic churches, standing beside the famous cemetery and the old Franciscan monastery. It was built in 1732, and its white Baroque interior is a calm contrast to the busy plaza outside.
Come in when you are already visiting Recoleta Cemetery or the nearby museums. The church is not huge, but it gives the neighbourhood a useful colonial layer beneath its grand 19th-century mansions and cafe terraces.
