Pasaje Lanín

Address Pasaje Lanín, Barracas

A short alleyway in the Barracas neighbourhood (just south of San Telmo) where the artist Marino Santa María has spent three decades covering the houses on both sides with mosaic tiles. The effect is total: every wall, doorframe, step, and surface is encrusted with coloured ceramic pieces in abstract and figurative patterns. The residents of the alley have participated in the decoration of their own homes.

Pasaje Lanín is genuinely off the tourist track — Barracas is not a tourist neighbourhood, and the alley is easy to miss even with a map. That is part of its appeal. It is not a museum or a performance; it is an inhabited street that happens to look unlike anywhere else in the city. Come on a quiet weekday for the most interesting experience.
