Cabildo Histórico

Colonial-era seat of government with provincial history museum

The colonial cabildo facing Jujuy's main plaza is one of the best-preserved in Argentina. Built in the eighteenth century, it served as the seat of local government through the independence period — General Manuel Belgrano declared the Argentine flag from its balcony in 1813, before the building was briefly occupied by royalist forces. The interior houses a small museum of provincial history that is modest in scale but well worth an hour.
