The Artisan Market occupies a converted 19th-century colonial building on Avenida San Martín, a short walk south of the centre. It is the best place in Salta to buy quality craft goods: woven textiles from the puna communities, carved wooden pieces, ceramics, silver jewellery, and leather goods. The quality is notably higher than the tourist-market stalls around the plaza.
The building itself — a former estate with a colonnaded courtyard — is worth seeing. Local artisans sell directly from workshops here, and watching weavers at work on traditional looms is part of the experience. Prices are fair and bargaining is not the norm. Open daily; mornings are quietest.
