The highest accessible point in the immediate area, Cerro El Centinela is a recreation complex built around the hill's natural viewpoint. A teleférico (cable car) carries visitors to the summit, where the views stretch across Tandil and out over the flat pampa in every direction — on a clear day you get a vivid sense of just how anomalous these hills are in the landscape. The base has a hotel and restaurant, a pool complex in summer, and some short trails. It's more of a managed resort than a wilderness experience, but the views from the top are the best in the region and it works well as a half-day trip from the city centre.
