Mercado Municipal

Covered market with Tandil's famous cheeses, longaniza, and cured meats

The Mercado Municipal is the non-negotiable stop for anyone visiting Tandil. The covered market in the city centre is where the local producers sell their cheeses, longaniza sausage, salami, and other cured meats directly — the same products that get exported across Argentina, here at their freshest and cheapest. You can eat at the counters inside or load up for a picnic in the hills. The longaniza is the signature purchase: a spiced, dried pork sausage with Basque origins that Tandil has made entirely its own. The semi-curado cheeses are excellent too. Budget an hour and try before you buy — the stallholders are generally happy to hand over samples.
