Hielo & Aventura run the walks on the Perito Moreno glacier itself — the thing most people come to El Calafate for without realising it can be done. The day starts with a boat from Puerto Bajo las Sombras across the lake, twenty minutes along the glacier's south face, to a shelter on the far shore. From there guides fit crampons and helmets and lead groups onto the ice.
On the glacier you walk among crevasses, blue sinkholes, seracs and meltwater pools. Groups are capped at twenty, with a guide for every ten. The whole excursion, with transfers from El Calafate and an hour on the glacier's walkways, takes about ten hours. It runs from early August to late May.
The ice walk is of moderate difficulty and has age and fitness limits; check them before booking. They publish no street address; the pin marks the jetty where the boat leaves. Book by WhatsApp.
