El Calafate exists almost entirely to serve access to Los Glaciares National Park, and the glaciers are overwhelmingly the reason to come. Beyond the ice, the Glaciarium museum offers context before or after your visit to the field, and the town makes a useful base for day trips further into Patagonia. Book glacier excursions in advance during the high season (November to March).
