Junín de los Andes is a fishing town first and a mountain town second. The Chimehuin, Malleo, and Aluminé rivers draw fly fishermen from around the world, and during the season (November to April) the riverside pools are occupied by waders working the current for brown and rainbow trout. For those who don't fish, the real draw is Lanín National Park to the west — a landscape of araucaria forests, volcanic cones, mountain lakes, and Andean passes. The town itself is unpretentious and easy, a good base for several days of activity.
