Chubut Valley city known for dinosaur fossils, Welsh Patagonia history, and access to Gaiman.
Trelew is not pretty in the conventional Patagonian way. It is a dry, practical city in the lower Chubut Valley, with traffic, wind, and a working-town feel. But it has two strong claims on a traveller's time: one of South America's best dinosaur museums and a front-row position in Welsh Patagonia.
The Museo Paleontológico Egidio Feruglio is the reason to stop even if you are racing between Puerto Madryn and Gaiman. Its Patagonian fossils, research labs, and Patagotitan story give the city a scientific weight that surprises many visitors.
Trelew also works as a transport hub. The airport serves Puerto Madryn as much as Trelew itself, and the valley towns are close enough to combine in a day: dinosaurs here, Welsh tea in Gaiman, and the coast at Rawson or Playa Union if you have a car.

Getting Around
Central Trelew is manageable by taxi or on foot for the museum, plaza, and lagoon. The city is spread out enough that walking everywhere can become dull, especially in wind.
For Bryn Gwyn, Gaiman, Rawson, Playa Union, or Punta Tombo, use a rental car, remise, or tour. Public transport exists between the main valley towns, but it is not built around sightseeing.

Getting There
Almirante Marcos A. Zar Airport is just outside Trelew and is the main air gateway for both Trelew and Puerto Madryn. Taxis, remises, and rental cars connect the airport with the city and the coast.
Long-distance buses link Trelew with Puerto Madryn, Gaiman, Rawson, Comodoro Rivadavia, and Buenos Aires. If your real goal is Madryn's wildlife coast, check transfer times before assuming Trelew is only a quick stop.
