Puente Armas Waterfalls

Jungle canyon waterfalls with a swimmable lagoon

A spectacular forested canyon with several huge waterfalls, named after an old metal bridge in Choro. The easiest to reach is the Rio Cajon waterfall, just 100 metres from the main road. A short path leads into a small canyon and opens onto a large chilly lagoon with the powerful falls crashing down. Excellent for a swim on sunny days — bring an inner tube if you want to get right under the falls. Try to arrive before 2pm for the best light.

To get there, take any transport heading toward Caranavi. After about two hours you will cross a tunnel (the only one on the road). Ten more minutes and you are there. About an hour before the Cajon waterfall, you can spot very high waterfalls on the far side of the canyon — these can be visited in the dry season, but only with a guide.
