La Casona occupies a restored 19th-century house a few blocks from the plaza, with high ceilings, exposed beams, and a leafy interior courtyard that catches the evening breeze. The menu wanders between Bolivian classics, German dishes (the original owner was Bavarian), and a long list of grilled meat and fish from the Bolivian east.
It has been here for decades and is one of the safer bets in the centre for a sit-down dinner — service is unhurried, the wine list runs to Argentine and Tarija bottles, and the back garden is candlelit at night. Reserve if you want a table in the patio.
