Santa Cruz itself is not packed with sights, but the surrounding region offers some of Bolivia's most rewarding excursions. Amboro National Park has cloud forests and striking sandstone formations. The Jesuit Missions of Chiquitos, a string of beautifully restored 18th-century churches east of the city, are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Boat trips into the Amazon basin and the Pantanal wetlands are also within reach.
