The historic centre of Tarija is compact and easily walked — the main plaza, cathedral, Casa Dorada, and market are all within 10 minutes of each other on foot. Taxis are cheap and available everywhere for longer journeys within the city.
For the Valle de la Concepción and the wineries, taxis (negotiate the fare in advance) or a local micro (minibus) from the central terminal serve the route. The drive takes about 20 minutes. Tours from Tarija to the wineries can be arranged through hotels and travel agencies in the city centre.
The road to Bermejo and the Argentine border is served by regular buses from the main terminal. For Tupiza, the road is rough and the journey long — the overnight bus is the standard approach.
