The main beaches and sights along the coast are connected by the Avenida Beira Mar, which runs east from Praia de Iracema past Meireles and Praia do Futuro. The Beira Mar is walkable for short stretches; for longer distances, taxis are the most practical option (ridesharing apps work well here). A metrofor system (the Metrô de Fortaleza) covers some suburbs but is not particularly useful for the main tourist areas along the seafront. Bike lanes run along sections of the Beira Mar and are used heavily in the evenings. For beach-hopping and day trips, renting a car gives the most flexibility; local rental agencies around the airport and on Av. Dom Luís are plentiful.
