Getting There

Natal is served by Aeroporto Internacional Governador Aluízio Alves (NAT), about 30 km west of the city center near the town of São Gonçalo do Amarante. It replaced the old Augusto Severo airport in 2014. Connections to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and other Brazilian cities are frequent. International flights are limited but a few European charter routes operate seasonally.

By bus, Natal is connected to Fortaleza (about eight hours), Recife (about four hours), and other northeastern Brazilian cities. The long-distance bus station is on Avenida Capitão-Mor Gouveia in the northern part of the city.
