Praia do Madeiro

The longer, less-developed beach immediately north of Baía dos Golfinhos, reached by a steep wooden staircase off the highway about two kilometres from the village. The bay is wide and shallow at low tide; dolphins regularly pass through, and the surf school operating from the southern end of the beach is the best place to take a first lesson — small consistent waves, sandy bottom, no rocks.

Two restaurants — Tibau do Sul and the long-running Manjericão — sit on the sand and serve good seafood lunches. Madeiro is quieter than the village beaches; if Praia do Centro feels too crowded, this is where to come.
