Within Porto Seguro itself, mototaxis and local buses are the main options. Taxis are available but pricier. Most of the beaches are strung along a coastal road north of the centre, easily reached by local bus.
To reach Arraial d'Ajuda on the south bank of the river, take the small passenger ferry from the dock near the bus station — it runs frequently and takes about five minutes. From the ferry landing, taxis and mototaxis continue to the village and further south to Trancoso and Caraíva.
