Praia de Taperapuan

The biggest of the northern beaches and the main party beach of Porto Seguro. Six kilometres north of the centre, reached by the coastal road or local bus, it is fronted by a strip of large barracas — Axé Moi, Barramares, and Tôa Tôa are the famous ones — each running its own daytime show with a live band, dance instructors leading axé and forró on the sand, and a stage for the evening luau.

Outside the barracas the beach is long, flat, and good for swimming, with calm water at low tide and a reef offshore that breaks the worst of the waves. The party is the point; if you want quiet sand, keep going north to Mundaí or Itaperapuan. In low season the barracas are quieter but still open.
