A 350-metre crescent of fine sand on the bay side of the Barra peninsula, sheltered from the open Atlantic and consistently rated the best urban beach in Brazil. The water is calm enough for swimming, the sunsets — over the bay rather than the ocean — are among the most reliable in the city, and the beach barracas sell ice-cold coconuts, beer, and grilled fish from morning until well after dark.
The beach attracts a mixed crowd of locals, weekenders from elsewhere in Bahia, and visitors from the rest of the country and abroad. Weekends are very busy.
