A single curved-corner modernist building on the Avenida Joana Angélica, the only constructed survivor of a 1950s plan to rebuild the entire surrounding neighbourhood in the style of Le Corbusier. The plan was abandoned but the prototype house remained, derelict for decades and now restored as a cultural centre with rotating exhibitions and a small café.
A worthwhile detour for anyone interested in Brazilian modernism, and a quiet break between the heavier sights of the Pelourinho.
